Are you worried about your gutters getting clogged before winter? It is essential to clean out gutters at least twice a year to avoid clogging. Otherwise, leaves and debris can build up and cause damage to your roof, fascia, and gutter. Cleaning your gutters can be an easy process if you follow these steps.
Items you will need:
Decide the best way to get to your gutters. If your roof is relatively flat, the best way would be cleaning them out from the roof. If your roof is steep, it will be easier to use a ladder.
Start at the downspout. Take out all debris by hand, and dump into a bucket or onto a tarp.
Clear small debris and mud with a trowel or hand shovel.
Remove and clean downspout strainers. These are located at the top of the downspout. Also, check for any additional items in this area. The downspout is where all of the water travels, and this area can be blocked easily.
Wash the inside of the gutter with a hose at high pressure. Start at the end furthest from the downspout to push all remaining dirt toward the downspout.
Turn on a hose, and feed it up and into your downspout to clear out any clogs.
You will want to make sure your gutters are appropriately inspected twice a year or every season. Clean out the inside of the gutters, then check your gutters for any rusted pieces and any sagging.
